When it comes to choosing between a treat or praise from their human parent, dogs prefer praise, a 2016 study has found. This affirms what Don Sullivan has promoted since he began his career in 1986: dogs don’t need food in order to be motivated to respond. And, by using praise versus food, you eliminate the numerous serious problems associated with treat training. Don Sullivan's training is based on The DogFather® Method, which emphasizes the following: 1. Best rewards: praise, play, affection, and freedom. 2. Best results: achieving the highest possible standard of obedience to maximize the quality of the relationship between dog and owner.
